NEW!! Water Based Snake Barrier

Herpetosure Group company Three Shires Ltd were recently commisioned to design and install the UK’s first water based snake barrier. Main contractor the Ringway Group and constultancy ARUP contacted Herpetosure to assist at the Ulley Reservoir site, near Rotherham.
The system was required to remain in situ for the duration of the construction works (8 months) and also needed to be capable of withstanding water level changes of over 5 metres.

The Herpetosure team developed a floating boom system 200 metres in length, running across the entire width of the reservoir. A 200 metre long x 6 metre deep 6mm gauge net was attached to the boom and submerged into the water.
The net and boom system was anchored to each bank and stabilsed with a series of heavy duty buoys. The boom was designed to mirror the water profile as reservoir levels changed. (See Pictures).
The remained of the site was encapsulated using Herpetosure Snake Fencing and then tied into the water barrier.
The boom’s free board height was also critical; the system needed to sit at least 600mm above the water line to prevent snake coming over the top.

Ringway’s Site Agent, Dan Ferneyhough Explains
“Three Shires have been a pleasure to work with from the offset, their staff proved to be very knowledgeable and very willing to help. It was comforting to know that if there were any problems James was on the end of the phone and able to answer any questions I may have had. I am impressed with the time it took to complete the fencing and the finished product itself, especially the innovative approach to the water based snake barrier. I look forward to working with Three Shires again and would recommend them to other businesses.”
